Yeah, it's something I've thought of, but it might not necessarily be accurate. User's may leave Web Riddler for a while before returning. If I made it only time that people were active, it would ignore any time spent working whilst not active.

Of course, it's still interesting to know. Any thoughts anyone?

it should just calculate the difference between getting access to two phases. working on a phase on or off webriddler shouldn't make any difference.

so if the time a user reaches a phase gets logged somewhere, it should be possible to somehow calculate the days/hours/minutes it took to reach there from a previous phase, right?

but if you were thinking about inactive time, as time away / on a break from riddling, there's nothing much you can do there...

That's a good idea, Martina. huh.gif

matchu- 06-26-2007
Yeah, that's what I meant. How long were you a Phase 42 riddler before you reached Phase 43?

Of course, you could also add a little note saying "this does not accurately reflect time spent working on the phase". People would probably understand that someone who took 3 months to beat a phase probably wasn't working on it the whole time.

that's even better than "first to reach" cause it shows how fast people are no matter when they joined.
and it could also be useful for assessing how difficult some riddles are...

I think another use for the "last time active" would be for people who need to ask for help. (You don't want to ask someone for help if they haven't been on in the last 5 days.)

I like the idea of Webriddler currency! I can't wait to edit my member title!

Another suggestion: the ability to PM multiple people, unlike on forumer where you can only PM one user at a time

For the Phase Timer idea: maybe the profile can have a section called "Riddling Stats" and that can show how long the person spent on each phase. Maybe even graphs that show the trend! I don't know how hard that is on the web, but it is sure easy in Microsoft Excel!

Maybe there can also be something that shows a phase's average solve time. Though the problem with that would be if someone took a break from WR for a month or so because of something as unimportant as final exams. rolleyes.gif and also phase 1 and 2 would be thrown off by n00bs. Maybe it can be based solely on the time a person is logged in!

This is an amazing thing Jax is doing.

by the way, is matchu actually registered in the new webriddler? or is that just a Jax -*test*-('")ing out the registration process?

I dunno if this has been brought up yet or not, but how about an image-number-recognition thing so that bots can't sign up and advertise... things?

'Cuz that would rock.

You mean a CAPTCHA?

zeldageek- 07-17-2007
Yeah, a CAPTCHA. ohmy.gif

...well.

The people I tend to talk to online have some level of authority in various areas.

By talking to said people, I not only get to enjoy their company, but they let slip quite a few things. I end up knowing about new site features (and sometimes get to work on them myself) since I like to talk to these people ohmy.gif

By talking to Jax (and let me remind you: the information is just a bonus - I like talking to these people wink.gif), I managed to narrow down where the new WR was hosted to about 150 or so places, and went through those xP

And since I had done so much work to get there, Jax let me stay xD

...but y'all shouldn't bother about now. It was down last I checked :x

EDIT: Yep. There's an unknown column 'usr_id' in 'where clause' webriddler/hm.gif

I love all the suggestions@ webriddler/up.gif webriddler/yes.gif

I'm totally up for the automatic phase system with all the hints and stuff, and I would love to see user moderation. Limited, of course. biggrin.gif
