On top of all of the basic features of a standard forum (user accounts, topics, posts, polls, etc) these are the planned features for the new Web Riddler:

• Automatic Phase Management - Always know what phase you are on, have direct links to Phase information and Hints & Tips threads, see what Phase other users are on; all without you having to do a thing!
• Automatic User Groups - No more waiting for PMs from administrators. Once you fulfill the requirements to move on, it'll be done automatically.
• Same Phase List - You will now be able to easily see what online members are currently on the same Phase as you. Teaming up will be easier.
• Rank List - See a list of the top riddlers and what Phase they are on.
• User's Local Time - See each user's local time in their user info.

There are several useful features from Forumer that I'll be carrying over as well:

• Active Users - Always see exactly what users/guests are online and what they are currently doing.
• Profile Management - Easily update your user information, including login details, personal information and avatar/signatures.
• Simpler Display for New Members - Similar to what I've done here, new members will not be able to see the whole host of forums. Work your way up through the phases to see what will be available.
• Local TIme - All times displayed in the users local time.

There are other features that are on the agenda that may or may not be implemented:

• Chat Box - Easily talk with other users without having to use threads or leaving the site.
• Web Riddler Currency - Earn money by being active, completing phases, winning competitions, etc. Use it for several purposes, changing member title/s, global Web Riddler messages, etc.
• Karma System - Bump up the karma of those who are great helpful active members. Drop the karma of those that are rude or post spoilers. Allows for user moderation.
• Side Quests - Optional side puzzles seperate from the main stream.

Others will be added to these lists as time goes on.

I quite liked the rank list that we had a while ago. but this will be good if it doesn't have to be manually updated.

All other features should be good.


Maybe perhaps putting in an arcade section. I've seen various forums that have a few flash games that help you earn currency too.

There's a feature there then. A Rank list that shows the members at the highest phase.

Not too sure about the arcade. Seems a little gimicky to me. There are other things I have in mind for both earning and spending currency, but that'd come down the track.

Keep the ideas/suggestions rolling.

These are all good ideas so far.

Combine that with the side quests someone mentioned should make the new web riddler even better.

It should be fairly easy to implement after the site is officially up and runnig.

and all this will be worked into the site without problems? how will you give out "money" to those who have been here longer vs higher phase? i dont care to much about this but i have to ask. i cant wait for the auto phse forwarding thing because i have waited for a week now and no responce yet from an admin. is there an estimated time to start the "upgrades"?

At the moment, my best guess about how long before the site is up would be about 2 months. I have made quite some progress already, but all the little things take up quite alot of time (the most painful thing so far - was putting commas between people's names on the Active Users list).

The money would probably be based on phase/post count, with bonuses here and there. I'll even be able to make a penalty if they spam and their posts have to be deleted.

so me with 6 (now 7) posts and on phase 28 would get 20 credits (for say) how many would someone with 300 posts but only on phase 13 or one on phase 80 with 5 posts?

Well it's just speculative atm, but I was thinking something like 1 per post, and say, points for each being ceil(PhaseNo/4). In other words, 1 point/phase initially, going up every 4 phases. Or something similar... I'm starting to confuse myself here.

So that'd put you on 7 + 112 = 119 pts

300 Posts on Phase 13 = 300 + 29 = 329 pts

5 Posts on Phase 80 = 5 + 840 = 845 pts

Of course, these numbers can easily be changed. It's just as an example. It would need to be balanaced a bit.

So Phases 1-4 are worth 1 pt each - 4 points. 5-8 are 2 pts each - 8 pts. 9-12 = 12 pts, etc. So you can essentially tally them by adding every 4th phase number.

Ie, Phase 29 = 4 + 8 + 12 + 16 + 20 + 24 + 28 + 8 = 120

Eventaully, Phases 97-100 would be worth 25 pts each.

As I said, these numbers are just examples and would likely change.
