Well martina's already sent me a bunch of PMs about phases and I've got one from priory too I think. So just send me a message if you think there's something wrong with a phase.

how about removing 37 laugh.gif biggrin.gif

*pops back in for the morning*

What? I spend half an hour writing that and you don't even -- oh, wait. Right. The edit.

...well, of course you think I came off bad. You already knew you would disagree. The point isn't to convince you, silly. It's to convince everyone else ;D

Feel free to disagree. I'd love to see you write a rant of equal length. Honestly. It would be a fun debate. But there's no need to insult my ability or intentions.

...mmkay. See ya Saturday.

no matter what, someone will have to start over for -*test*-('")ing purposes. if there are no major changes, it shouldn’t take more time than it will to put all the phases up.

that doesn’t mean that we should get brand new phases, except where it’s inevitable.

i was thinking, maybe we could have the list of changed phases in the announcement box (no matter if the password is the same or not) during the first month, so that we could all try to solve them again if we want to. that way basically everyone would have a choice to start wherever they want. and if you get stuck on the new phase 40 although you’ve originally reached phase 60, you could easily give up -*test*-('")ing and continue where you left off… ok, this sounds a bit bad, but i think it would work for everyone…

anyways, i intend to start over just to straighten up my notes. but i would like that to be my choice. i have no desire to get stuck for weeks on some research phase all over again, so i would appreciate having the option to continue from where i am now.

Please, Justice. Stop advocating for destroying what I put a year and a half of hard work into. If you expect me to redo all that, then I will be heavily inclined to leave the site. If all that work was wasted....... well, let me leave it at this:

I will not stand for destroying hard work.

I will not stand for forcing others to repeat it.

I stand for the life and growth Web Riddler - not its death.

Pretty sure I saw 2 there.

EDIT: Sorry I got like that, but it's just I'm so used to debates being used to basically give me the impression that my opinion makes me evil or something just to bring it up.

what a long discussion.
I know this is really old, but i just saw the link that Qix posted and decided to read it.
I would have to say, redoing every phase would be a pain in the a$$.
But if it's just changing up the problem phases, there shouldn't be a problem arguing whether or not those should be changed. only change the ones that cannot be copied directly.
and -*test*-('")ing riddles seems fun biggrin.gif and i like the idea matchu posted about "knowing the last password and then it completes all the rest before."

Protactinium- 08-01-2008
Well although it could be done, it likely won't.

As you know, many of Web Riddler's phases revolve around an active forum. If people jump over to the new site, already on Phase 87, with an empty forum, it kind of defeats the purpose.

I think the site will work better off starting from a clean slate. Like pruning trees, it'll cause Web Riddler to come back more alive then before.

I don't mind putting the work in to revise every phase, and anyone who's already completed some of the phases shouldn't have too much problem with catching up.

zeldageek- 08-02-2008
It's going to be hard remembering some of the tactics used, but I guess that's what we have Spoilerz for. laugh.gif

Qix- 08-02-2008
I am very adverse to the idea that all the hard work we've put into solving these things should go down the drain. Is there a way to leave this site intact so that those of us who are close can finish?

P.S. Zeldageek, what is up with your avatar?

AtlanteanTapir- 08-02-2008
Yeah, that looks freaking scary zelda O.o
and well... HOPEFULLY, lets hope, the riddles wont be too different from before.
i mean, don't alter the fundamental mechanics of the riddle of every phase, unless its impossible to recreate, but if its just a change of words and passwords, i don't mind TOO much...

I can leave this site up, however no administrator support will be provided (admittedly this is lacking at the moment anyway), unless Felix chooses to continue here. The new site will be much more self-managed. No longer will there be any need for administrators in order to play Web Riddler.

As I said, most of the fundamentals of the phases will remain the same, but the order may change (depending on their difficulty), and the way they are presented may be different.

Think of this in another way - many of you have been stuck on a phase for a while, or have been progressing very slowly. This includes members that left for a long while and that have just returned, finding immediately getting into the higher phases difficult. The opportunity for everyone to start over on a clean slate allows people to get back into the flow, help support the development of the new site, get some real competition going (which hasn't been seen since the likes of nil, Felix & pirsquared) and promote a new influx of riddlers. Moreover, the new site will be far better designed for providing support for users.

Well zeldageek and I are fairly close to finishing. I still think I can finish before the new site goes up (unless we're talking in a matter days or weeks before its finished). I've been asking for help on Phase 90, but you're not responding...

AtlanteanTapir- 08-03-2008
Well, is it possible to finish it before you go to the new site? I mean, developing the community would be a great thing, but.. for those who finished up to 100 phases, or those who finished nearly... its a bit unfair to them... how about all people under phase 75 must redo the whole thing? That includes me, i dont mind too much, but i would mind if i were like phase 89 or something...
